◎温州部分杰出历史人物 Some distinguished Historical Personages in Wenzhou

　　谢灵运(385～433年)， 公元422年出任永嘉太守，是中国文学史上山水诗派的开创者，他创作的山水诗传世名篇，多为赞美温州山水。
　　Xie Lingyun (365-433), appointed chief of Yongjia Prefecture in A.D. 422, founder of the Landscape Poetry School in Chinese history of literature. His famous poems are mostly in praise of Wenzhou’s landscape.

　　王十朋 (1114～1171年)，温州人。 南宋建炎二十四年高宗亲擢为状元,著有《梅溪集》及《杜陵诗史》等 ，其事迹、思想在温州影响较大。
　　Wang Shipeng (1114-1171), born in Wenzhou, appointed Number One Scholar by Emperor Gaozong of the Southern Song Dynasty. His writings include the “Collected Works of Meixi” and the “History of Poetry of Duling”. His deeds and thought exerted great influence in Wenzhou.

　　叶  适(1150～1223年)，温州人。南宋哲学家，倡导“务实而不务虚”，批评“高谈者远述性命，而以功业为可略”，主张“黜虚从实”，修实政、行实德、实事实功，是永嘉学派之集大成者。
　　 Ye Shi (1150-1223), born in Wenzhou, philosopher of the Southern Song Dynasty. He advocated the doctrine of achieving real success in work and criticized those who “indulge in high-sounding empty talk but neglect practical cause”. He epitomized the thought of the Yongjia School.

　　刘 基(1311～1375年)，字伯温，文成南田人。明朝开国功臣,杰出的政治家、军事家和文学家。
　　 Liu Ji (1311-1375), styled himself Bowen, born in Qintian of Chuzhou (now under the jurisdiction of Wenzhou), meritorious founder and distinguished statesman, strategist and writer of the Ming Dynasty.

　　孙诒让(1848～1908年)，温州瑞安人。清经学家、文字训诂学家，所著《契文举例》，为最早考释甲骨文的著作，另著有《名原》、《古籀拾遗》、《古籀馀论》、《墨子间诂》、《周礼正义》、《尚书骈枝》、《札迻》、《籀庼述林》等书，堪称大师。
　　 Sun Yiran (1848-1908), born in Rui’an of Wenzhou, Confician classicist and textual researcher of the Qing Dynasty. He has left many works including “Examples of Inscriptions on Shells”, the earliest writing of its kind, “Origin of Names”, “About the Ancient Calligraphic Style Dazhuan” and many others.

　　夏承焘(1900～1986年) ，温州人。著名词学家,毕生致力于词学研究和教学，是现代词学的开拓者和奠基人。国学界称其为一代词宗。
　　 Xia Chengtao (1900-1986), born in Wenzhou, noted expert in ci poetry, pioneer and founder of modern ci poetry.

　　夏鼐(1910～1985年)，温州人。考古学家、社会活动家，中科院院士。曾先后获得英国学术院通讯院士、德意志考古研究所通讯院士、瑞典皇家文学历史考古科学院外籍院士、美国国家外籍院士、意大利远东研究所通讯院士、第三世界科学院院士等荣誉称号。被誉为新中国考古学奠基人。
　　 Xia Nai (1910-1985), born in Wenzhou, archaeologist, social activist and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was conferred on the title of correspondent and guest academician of British Academy, DAI, RAILHA, NAS, ISMEO and the third Academy of Sciences. He was acclaimed as founder of Chinese archaeology.

　　苏步青（1902～2003年），温州人。我国杰出的数学家、教育家、诗人，著名的社会活动家，中科院院士。曾任复旦大学校长、全国政协副主席。
　　 Su Buqing (1902-1985), born in Wenzhou, Chinese distinguished mathematician, educationist, poet, noted social activist and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was once president of Fudan University and vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

◎文物保护单位 Historical Relics under Protection
　　温州历史悠久，文化发达，有“东南邹鲁”之称。千百年来，温州的先人用自己的智慧和双手为后人留下了宝贵的文化遗产。温州现有国家级文物保护单位15个,省级文物保护单位39个，市（县、区）级文物保护单位493个。
　　With a long history and rich culture, Wenzhou was reputed as a place comparable to the birthplaces of Confucius and Mencius in the southeast of China. For hundreds of years, Wenzhou’s ancestors left behind precious cultural heritages. The city has 15 state-level, 39 provincial-level and 493 municipal (county or district)- level units of historical relics under protection.
